OUTDOOR gym equipment to replace the rotting trim-trail at West End Park, March, could be in place by the end of the Olympic summer.

Michelle Katzler from the West End Park Friends Group said she would be fighting hard to get the facilities up and running as soon as possible after a long-term battle to get about 30,000 funding.

A new trim-trail has been on the cards since 2008 when residents said during a consultation that they wanted the old trim-trail replaced.

Gym equipment was chosen to help Fenland’s fitness drive as it aims to tackle obesity and lack of exercise - and now residents have got the chance to give their views on the plans.

More than 500 consultation forms are being distributed throughout the town including properties overlooking the site and others will be made available at public buildings such as the library and George Campbell Leisure Centre.

Ms Katzler said: “These will be new, exciting pieces of equipment which everyone can use.

“There are quite a lot of problems with heart disease and diabetes round here, so this will help people who wouldn’t have the money to go to a gym the chance to exercise and have something to do.”

The equipment will include horizontal climbing bars, a stepper, rowing machine and sit up station.

Most of the money is being provided by WREN, with the rest to come from the Community Spaces Lottery Fund.

The consultation last until June 8. For more information, visit the website www.fenland.gov.uk/trimtrail
