WHEN Roger Kay ran a punishing 17 miles at Lake Coniston two years ago, he realised that a full marathon was beyond him.
But on Saturday, the Fenland Running Club member did complete his first marathon... on a rowing machine.
Roger raised 187.25 for Fenland Cardiac Rehabilitation Service with the 42,195m row, the equivalent of 26.2 miles.
He said: “It has been a ‘bucket list’ wish to complete a marathon but although I managed almost 17 miles around Lake Coniston two years ago, that made me realise I’d never manage another nine miles to run a full marathon.
“But I’ve had it in the back of my mind I might be able to manage it on a static rower and this was an ideal opportunity to add to the funds raised by Jane Greenwood’s charity run held by Fenland RC and March Athletic Club members earlier in May.”
Roger, who completed the marathon row at the Hudson Leisure Centre, finished in three hours 23.07 minutes.
The fund-raising effort means that a total of 646.38 will now be donated to Fenland Cardiac Rehabilitation Service.
