MODEL railway enthusiasts had a treat over the weekend, when they were able to take a look at a range of layouts belonging to members of Wisbech Model Railway Club.
This was the first open day run by the club, and has been heralded a great success by chairman Brian Baylis. “We were thrilled that around 200 people came to visit us,” he said.
“We exhibited the club layout, called Hungate Bridge; and members brought along their own layouts for the public to view.”
Among the model layouts on view was the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway, built by member Richard Stowe, who was baptised by Rev W Awdry, the fomrer Vicar of Emneth who created Thomas the Tank Engine and other children’s train characters.
Guest Greg Petit from Ely also took along his Berrywood 0-guage layout.
Brian added: “We hope to run another open day next year, as well as a mini-exhibition at Wimbotsham, near King’s Lynn.
The club meets almost every Monday evening, from 6.30pm, in the upper room of St Peter’s Hall in Wisbech. For more information, call Brian on 01366 380224.
