PHOTOGRAPHS of a bygone age in Chatteris, an afternoon of jazz in March, a leisurely walk round Wisbech and tall tales from Fenland in Whittlesey.
Those are just four of the events and activities planned for older people during Cambridgeshire Celebrates Age, a month-long programme of special events running across the county throughout October.
There will also be three sessions of “therapeutic art”, a film show, a bring and buy morning and an “intergenerational bingo” afternoon.
And on October 9 there will be an information fair in March Library, bringing together organisations offering information and advice on activities and help for older people.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “active ageing”, picking up on the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The main aims are to promote active living, help reduce social isolation and reach out to the most vulnerable. It also seeks to challenge ageism and demonstrate the valuable contribution and achievements of older people.
