THE only shop in Tydd St Giles will not re-open after its use for housing was agreed despite objections from the parish council.
The Village Stores in Church Lane closed earlier this year, but the parish council objected to the change of use saying a village shop is the lifeblood of the community.
A planning officer, who recommended approval for the change of use, told Fenland District Council’s planning committee: “Tydd St Giles benefits from a church, school, hairdressers and public house and, therefore, the village would not lose a community hub if the change of use is granted.”
The committee received 17 letters supporting the change of use and 10 letters of objection.
