RECYCLING giant AmeyCespa announced today that work to repair its multi-million pound Mechanical Biological Treatment plant at Waterbeach is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year.
New compost turning machinery is being manufactured which will replace the previous equipment which failed in September 2012.
Work has already started in preparation for the installation of the new machinery, with the plant set to be up and running by the end of the year.
Paul Greenwell, managing director of AmeyCespa, said: “This is a significant step in our work to repair the plant, enabling it to once again process the county’s residual household waste.
“This is a complex piece of machinery and a lot of work has been done behind the scenes to ensure we find the best solution for the plant. Our priority and focus remains to work with Cambridgeshire County Council to bring the facility back into operation at the earliest realistic opportunity.”
The Mechanical Biological Treatment plant is a key element of AmeyCespa’s 28-year PFI contract with Cambridgeshire County Council to provide recycling and disposal services for the county’s waste.
