SAVINGS of around £300,000 a year are expected from the latest wave of planned redundancies at Fenland District Council.

I understand a confidential report to next Monday’s meeting of the council staff committee puts this as an estimate of projected annual savings.

However the committee will also be told to expect a one off hit of around £320,000 to meet redundancy and pension contribution costs to those staff likely to leave.

The committee has not met since last August but when it meets next week it will be given outline details of these possible redundancies.

The meeting – to be chaired by Councillor Ken Mayor of Whittlesey- will hear of the reviews now under way.

Environmental health, members services – which includes legal, elections and land charges team- and the community support team are among those affected.

There has also been review of the ICT team, customer services and the policy and communications team, the officials who would normally be asked to break both the good and bad news!

Councillors sitting on the committee will not be told the names of the individuals whose jobs are under consideration- they are simply being asked to ‘nod through’ the widespread changes.
