MOTORISTS could be forgiven for getting confused as they drive through a Fenland village where there are two different speed limit signs on the same stretch of road.
One set of signs asks drivers to keep to a steady speed of 30mph while an interactive sign flashes at 40mph.
The legal limit was reduced by 10mph last Autumn following concerns from parish councillors that motorists were travelling too fast along High Road in Guyhirn.
The speed reduction go-ahead was given by Cambridgeshire County Council and the work was carrid out on behalf of the parish council who employed contractors to install the new 30mph signs.
A parish councillor said the flashing 40mph sign was temporarily turned away from the road to avoid confusion but for some reason it had been turned back.
“We’re not sure why this has happend but we are holding a meeting as a matter of urgency to discuss what to do about the situation,” said Tony Fowler.
A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesman said they were in discussion with the parish council and hoped the situation would be resolved as quickly as possible.
