COMMUNITY spirit continues to thrive in Fenland as Benwick became the latest village to form its own Street Pride group.

The Benwick group has been set up with the help of a £500 grant from Fenland District Council by Valerie Gobie, Tracy Phillips, Jill Hindle and Pat Cuthbert.

They joined Councillor Peter Murphy this week to celebrate the formation of the 11th Street Pride group in the district.

The group is working with the village primary school to renovate one of its gardens and future plans include improving the entrance to the playpark on the High Street by installing some flower barrels.

Cllr Murphy, FDC’s portfolio holder responsible for the environment, said: “Street Pride is a fantastic success story. All our groups make a huge contribution to keeping the district clean and tidy – they do a great job but they would all welcome new members to enable them to do even more.”

Anyone wishing to join an existing group or form a new one should call Rebecca Robinett, FDC Street Pride coordinator, on 01354 654321 or email rrobinett@fenland.gov.uk.
