REVISED plans to build nine homes in Wisbech got the go-ahead after councillors agreed that the new scheme would have less impact on neighbouring properties.
The plan, for the site of the former Wisbech Vehicle Exchange in Old Lynn Road, includes eight semi-detached homes and a one-bedroom flat above a triple garage.
An application to build nine homes on the site a year ago was refused after councillors on Fenland District Council’s planning committee decided the original scheme had a cramped layout, small gardens and would result in the loss of privacy for neighbours.
A report put before the committee’s latest meeting said: “The revised layout and design of the site is considered to be a significant improvement over the previously refused scheme, both in terms of design quality and impact on the amenities of neighbours.”
Four of the homes face on to Old Lynn Road, while four more at the rear of the site face into a central parking court. The industrial building on the site, currently used for motor repairs, will be demolished.
The revised plan includes larger rear gardens, landscaped front gardens for the homes facing Old Lynn Road and increased landscaping of the parking area.
