THE Cambridgeshire Regiment held its annual re-union, luncheon and parade followed by the annual service in Ely Cathedral on Sunday.
The guests of honour were the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mr. Hugh Duberly CBE and Lieutenant Colonel M.P. Aston MC, Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment and the Mayor of Ely, Councillor Elaine Griffin-Singh.
The luncheon was held at The Malting’s, Ely where The President, Mr. F.J. Grounds MBE, DL, presided. After lunch guests and members moved to Ely Cathedral where a Parade and Inspection of Cambridgeshire Regt Assoc Members joined by other Ex-Military Association Members and Cambridgeshire Army Cadets was carried out the Lord Lieutenant.
Regular soldiers from “D (Cambridgeshire) Company, 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regt also attended the service. The soldiers have recently seen service in Afghanistan and some were travelling to Buckingham Palace on Thursday to receive bravery awards.
The Corps of Drums, Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force lead the march past as the salute was taken by the Lord Lieutenant.
This is an annual event for the Cambridgeshire Regt Association which has recently changed its name to the Royal Anglian Regiment Association, Cambridgeshire. This change reflects the links from the former Regiment into the Royal Anglian Regiment and provides a future for its members through the Royal Anglian Regiment.
