A TEENAGER had to be rescued by an East Anglian Air Ambulance team after he fell out of his bedroom window whilst checking for bird nests.

His family today paid tribute to the emergency services for their swift response after the drama unfolded at lunchtime yesterday.

The 17 year-old, who has asked not to be named, dislocated his knee after falling 10 feet from his bedroom window and landing on a garage roof.

The accident happened after he lost his balance whilst checking for bird nests in the guttering of the family’s Ely Road, Littleport, home.

Two rapid response paramedics were sent to the scene but could only provide the Ely College student, who had finished his AS exams just days before, with gas and air for his pain.

A land ambulance was called but as the boy was stuck on the roof they were unable to reach him safely. Both the fire service and the air ambulance were then summoned.

Once he was eventually stretchered off the roof he was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, where his knee was put back in place by doctors.

He was discharged last night and returned home.

His mum said the family was grateful for the swift response and perseverance of the medics and rescue crew.

She said: “We can’t thank them enough; they did a brilliant job in very difficult circumstances.”
