A CAMPAIGN has been stepped up to reduce the speed along a stretch of road where two young men were killed as they walked home from a night out in March.
The news comes as councillors plan to consult homeowners along Wisbech Road asking if they too would like to see a speed reduction.
The second public meeting is to be held into reducing the speed along Wimblington Road following the deaths of Dominic Iliffe, 24, and James Kiely, 27, in December 2011.
Campaigners want the speed limit reduced from 60mph to 40mph.
In Wisbech Road, March, campaigners want to see the limit reduced from 40 to 30mph from Peas Hill roundabout to Norwood Road roundabout.
Cllr Jan French said she aimed to make the town’s roads as safe as possible for motorists , pedestrians and cyclists.
“A 10mph reduction can mean the difference between life and death,” she said.
The Wimblington Road speed limit public meeting will be held on Wednesday July 17 at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel .
In the meantime leaflets will be sent out to residents in the area urging them to attend to push the proposals forward.
A date has yet to be set for a meeting into reducing the speed along Wisbech Road.
