DRAMATIC video footage of yesterday’s fire in Littleport shows the intensity of the blaze in which a man died.
Forensic experts are still at the scene in Kingsmead Court trying to unravel the mystery of the explosion which ripped through the two storey house.
Fire crews were called just before noon and arrived to find what they described as a “well developed fire involving both floors of and the roof space.”
Crews were drafted in from across the area including bringing in an aerial appliance from Cambridge.
“Ten firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets and hose reels to extinguish the fire,” said a fire service spokesman.
Norfolk’s Urban Search and Rescue were called to stabilise the building to enable firefighters to continue their operations and put out any remaining hotspots.
The spokesman said: “The fire was fully extinguished by 7.05pm. Crews returned to their stations by 7.25pm.”
This morning, Cambridgeshire police said: “The body of a man was discovered in the property. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and investigations will continue this morning.”
Firefighters were called to the house in Kingsmead Court after neighbours reported a loud bang.
As nearby Victoria Street was engulfed in thick, black smoke neighbours attempted to enter the property to see if there was anybody inside but were beaten back by the heat of the blaze.
