A brother and sister will push themselves to the limit when they take on the London Marathon this spring.
David Culley, 36, of Histon, and mother-of-one Laura Lofthouse, 33, of Outwell, will join thousands of runners on the streets of London in April.
The pair, who are former Wisbech Grammar School pupils, will run on behalf of JDRF - a diabetes charity close to their hearts.
Mr Culley has been diabetic for the past 13 years.
This is not Mrs Lofthouse’s first experience of the London Marathon - she took part in 2009, just six days before she got married, in aid of a children’s charity.
She said: “When I first finished the race I thought never again but, after watching it on TV every year, I thought why not do it again?
“I did it in four and a half hours so I’m hoping to beat that time.
“I was a keen runner but I stopped when I had my little boy so that’s another reason to do it again.
“My brother’s also a keen runner so I will be trying to keep up with him.
“It would be good if we could raise £2,000 for a fantastic cause.”
JDRF funds research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes, which affects 400,000 in the UK including more than 29,000 children.
Someone with type 1 diabetes will not have enough insulin or any insulin at all, meaning that blood glucose will fall or rise outside of the normal levels.
They suffer weight loss, exhaustion and a potentially lethal build-up of toxins.
