A couple have opened the first eco holiday park in Fenland which provides free electricity to lodges on site from wind turbines.
Farmer Dick Johnson, 56 and wife Fran, 62, of Lode Hall, Three Holes, installed five wind turbines to provide energy for 20 wooden lodges.
The lodges are painted green to fit in with the eco theme and all the installation work is being done by local tradesmen.
Mr Johnson, who was born at the farm said: “We feel passionate about having a eco park for people who come to this area. We hope are using A rated appliances in the lodges to be emission free. We are also having allotments so people who stay long-term can grow their own vegetables.”
Before becoming an eco park, the land won a David Bellamy conservation award three times, once being awarded gold.
Lode Hall is also linked with the RSPB as they have farmland walks for bird watchers.
Mrs Johnson said: “Nobody else in this area is aiming to have an emission free eco park, I hope that others take notice and do it as well.
She added: “We have five children between us and three grandchildren. We want to do our bit to ensure things get better for their generation.”
