A woman has been jailed after becoming the first person to breach a Domestic Violence Prevention Order (DVPO).
Caroline Cook, 34, of no fixed address, was made subject of the DVPO on July 29 but subsequently breached the order by contacting her husband, Matthew, on Monday and again today.
She was arrested and put before Cambridge Magistrates’ Court today where she admitted the breaches and was jailed for three weeks.
The DVPO scheme was launched in Cambridgeshire at the start of July to give officers extra powers to protect victims of abuse.
Any breaches could result in a fine of up to £5,000 or two months in prison.
Detective Inspector Alan Page said: “This is an excellent result and shows just how seriously the courts view the breaching of DVPOs.”
