A 16 year old from Wisbech has been selected on a national youth girlguiding panel which discusses issues affecting girls and young women.
Mathilde Tranter, a young leader at the 1st Leverington Rainbow group, will join 18 young women from across the UK on the Advocate panel, which meets four times each year to discuss issues like sex and relationships education for young people, portrayal of women in the media, sexism and harassment.
The panel speaks to MPs and ministers of all political parties, attends national conferences such as the Girl Summit in July and gives speeches at party conferences.
They were behind Girlguiding’s support of the No More Page 3 campaign and have a big say on the direction of the charity’s annual Girls’ Attitudes Survey.
Mathilde said: “Being an advocate is a way of giving back to girlguiding and helping give girls all over the UK a voice.
“I will definitely be behind any ideas which help change how music videos show young women and help all girls have better health education within school.
“With advocate I really want to make young women and girls realise that it is definitely possible for them to become whatever they choose – from a plumber to the next Prime Minister.”
