A fun-packed day of entertainment kept Whittlesey alive with the sound of music at the town’s seventh annual festival.
Highland pipers, dancers and free children’s funfair rides drew crowds of people into town for a celebratory community event, on Sunday.
Children were entertained by high energy puppet shows, there were dance groups, baton twirling youngsters and bands and singers including Singchronicity Barber Shop, Future Stars, Subway 77, Nomads and Flowers and Alderman Jacobs School choir.
A host of stalls and attractions lined the streets including crafts, circus skills and birds of prey displays.
There were refreshments, pony rides and a climbing wall for the more daring.
Parents took along their little ones to take part in a baby competition at the Ivy Leaf Club and the far east came to town with demonstrations of tai chi.
Peterborough Highland Pipe band, Sutherland Pipes and Drums and Bedford Pipe Band joined a procession that wound its way through the streets of Whittlesey, bringing a sprig of Scottish air to the festival.
The event is sponsored by Fenland District Council, Whittlesey Town Council, Whittlesey Business Forum and other community partners who along with the festival committee, work hard to stage the yearly family day of activities.
Isabel Edgington, FDC’s senior events and projects manager, said: “We had a great turnout – maybe a couple of thousand people - on a glorious day and there was a really nice, relaxed family atmosphere. All the stalls did good business and all the free activities proved very popular, too.
“The Spitfire flypast was a particular highlight.
“Special thanks are due to the volunteers on the Whittlesey Festival Committee for all their hard work organising the entertainment and competitions.”
