The Wisbech day and on-call crews were given the Operational Excellence Award for their swift and decisive action during an ammonia leak at the Moy Park factory in June, which prevented a major incident from taking place.

March watch commander Andy Powell picked up an Operational Excellence Award.

March on-call firefighter Dean Elkin was given a Chairman’s Award for retired personnel who have completed at least 25 years’ service.

A Long Service and Good Conduct medal was presented to Wisbech watch commander Philip Pilbeam for achieving 20 years service.

Wisbech Fire Station won the Partnership Achievement Award for its support of the Prince’s Trust Team programme involving Norfolk Fire Rescue Service, Cambs Police and the College of West Anglia.

Chief Fire Officer Graham Stagg, speaking after the ceremony, said: “Tonight’s event has highlighted the fantastic work taking place on the frontline, behind the scenes and also in our communities.

“It reflects how we have not only some of the very best firefighters and support staff but how our staff are inspirational leaders, innovative thinkers and dedicated people who work hard to deliver the best service to the residents of Cambridgeshire.”
