Two parades will take place in March to mark the centenary of the First World War.

The March branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) has organised a March Town Remembrance Parade on Sunday and an Armistice Parade on Tuesday.

March Town Remembrance Parade

All ex-service organisations, uniform and non uniform organisations will gather at 10am within Mill View car park to form the March Town Remembrance Parade.

This year 13 Squadron from 42 Engineer Regiment (geographical) now based at Wyton will be taking part and the Royal British Legion wreath will be presented by Chelsea Pensioner, Doug May.

Forty different organisations will be taking part in the parade this year and as normal the band of 1220 Squadron (Air Training Corps) will lead the parade.

The British Red Cross will be supporting our event by providing the medical cover free of charge.

All serving and ex members of the British Forces are invited to take part in this parade whether or not they are members or of any organisation taking part.

Timings:

10.30am – The parade will march from Mill View Car Park to St Peter’s Church paying respect to the fallen as they pass the War Memorial.

10.45am - Service of Remembrance at St Peter’s Church which will include a two minutes silence at the First World War Memorial within St Peter’s Church at 11am.

11.45am – The parade reform and march from St Peter’s Church to the War Memorial.

noon- The parade will hold a wreath laying service at the War Memorial which will include the Exhortation, laying of the wreaths followed by a two minutes silence after the last post.

The national anthem will be played before the standards are marched off the parade, the parade will then be dismissed.

The Armistice Parade.

All ex-service standard bearers and their escorts, veterans and civil dignitaries will gather at 10.45am at the side of Barclays Bank along Broad Street to form the Armistice Parade.

The parade will march onto the War Memorial at 10.50am, present a wreath and hold a two minutes silence at 11am.

The Royal British Legion is grateful to the support of the Army Cadet Force, the Air Training Corps, the Scouts, Guides, Brownies, March Brass 2000 and March Policing Team in helping them stage the parades.

Whittlesey Remembrance Parade

The Royal British Legion and Whittlesey Town Council have organised a parade and service on Sunday to remember all the soldiers that lost their lives during the First World War fighting for Queen and country.

The parade will set off from the Ivy Leaf at 2pm and march to the war memorial on Queen Street for the Remembrance service followed by a church service at St Mary’s Church.

If you wish to take part in the parade, ensure you’re at the Ivy Leaf for 1.15pm.
