Thieves smashed their way into Aldi superstore in Wisbech on Boxing Day and caused “substantial damage” as they rifled through the shop looking for money.
The thieves made off with cash and left a trail of damage following the break in at the Sandyland store at about 9pm.
The safe was damaged, but not opened and door locks and tills were broken, said Cambridgeshire Police.
A note was pinned to the door on Saturday December 27 apologising that the store was shut.
Police say enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
