A new event takes to the waters of the Ouse Washes later this year to raise money for a charity supporting people with brain injuries.
The Ouse Washes Tiger Challenge has been organised by Ely Hereward Rotary Club for Headway Cambridge and will take place in September.
Project leader Gary Gardner said: “This event is not for the faint-hearted. The run itself is quite gruelling as it’s off road, and the cycle ride following it will require some determination to complete.
“It’s for a very good cause in Headway and we should endeavour to do what we all can to help them.”
The challenge is a timed duathlon run which takes place on the September 20 alongside the Ouse Washes Experience community fund-raising event.
It comprises of a 10km off-road run between Welney and Welches Dam, followed by a cycle ride on quiet public roads through Manea, Christchurch, Nordelph, Downham Market and back to the WWT at Welney. Once there the entrants will abandon their cycles for a 100m run to the finish.
Entry is restricted to 100 on safety grounds, so it is advisable to book your place early by visiting www.tiger-challenge.org.uk
The runners will be headed by Gregg Brassett, who suffers from hydrocephalus as a result of him having two brain tumours successfully removed as a child.
He was inspired to take up running by Headway Cambridge and he wants to raise money for them as a thank you for turning his life round.
Chrissie Wellington’s book A Life Without Limits will be awarded to the holder of the best time to complete the event.
