The history and culture of gypsies and travellers is being celebrated at a series of events in Fenland this month.
On Monday, it will be the theme of a day-long event at the Rosmini Centre in Wisbech to mark International Children’s Day.
The day’s activities will include music, dance, craft work and a display of various artefacts and will end with a barbecue.
The Rosmini Centre is also displaying a selection of Traveller pictures by local photographer John Band in an exhibition continuing until next Tuesday.
A larger exhibition comprising more than 220 of his photos will then go on show at the Boathouse for two weeks.
On June 27 some of them will again be on display at the Chatteris Festival. They will be one of the attractions in a gazebo dedicated to gypsy traveller crafts, where visitors will be able to learn the art of peg-making.
June is Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month, an annual celebration established in 2008 as a way of countering negative stereotyping and prejudices.
