On Tuesday, June 16, Chatteris Town Council convened an extraordinary meeting to consider Aldi’s planning application to convert the former Co-operative store into its new supermarket.
Mindful of Chatteris residents’ frustration at the lack of a reasonable sized supermarket in the town, the town council decided to do all it could to ensure there was no delay in the planning process hence the decision to call a special meeting.
The town council raised no objections to the planning application although councillors did request that any trees removed should be replaced with new trees elsewhere on the site.
The town council is only a consultee in the planning process – Fenland District Council will either grant or refuse planning permission for the alterations to the store.
