Wisbech Indoor Bowls club is angry at Fenland District Council’s inaction over the future of the Hudson Centre facilities for bowlers.

The backdrop to their anger stems from a debt of £16,000 owed by the club to the council.

This debt, it must be stated was a fault of a past treasurer and the ignorance of the committee at the time.

But blame must also be planted at the door of the Fenland Council who failed over a period of time to keep track of the non-payment of monies due to the council.

This has meant that bowlers have been deprived of what, for many, is the only exercise they have. Considering that the majority of bowlers are OAP’s, some well into their 70’s, healthy exercise is vital for their well being.

In the interest of public service the council needs to write off the outstanding debt and let the bowlers continue playing at the Hudson.

If they do that, the council will have money coming in again. There is support for this from the indoor bowlers.

Just two weeks ago 60 of them turned up at the Hudson for a bowls roll-up and each paid £3.00 for their game.

So, come on Fenland Council, do the right thing- write off the debt and let the indoor club continue.
