A garden open event in March raised more than £1,000 for a national charity scheme.
Paul and Maria Nielsen Bom opened up their garden at Henson Road in March and along with refreshments had a steady flow of visitors to raise the staggering amount for good causes.
Mrs Nielsen Bom said: “Pleased to say it was a great success. We opened on two different weekends and raised a total of £1030.00 for the National Garden Scheme.”
The open garden event has become an annual date on the couple’s calendar.
The NGS describe it as an award winning garden divided into different sections - oriental with pond, bonsai, ferns and a continental area.
Refreshments were available which helped boost the fund raising total.
Since its foundation, the National Gardens Scheme has donated more than £45 million to nominated beneficiaries, of which nearly £23 million has been donated within the last ten years.
A spokesman for the NGS said; “Our continuing support means that for most of our beneficiaries we are the largest cumulative donor in their histories.”
The NGS was founded by the Queen’s Nursing Institute in 1927. In 1980 it was made an independent charity and in 2005 it was made a charitable company.
It supports a large team of volunteers operating on a county by county basis to source interesting and beautiful gardens which open to the public to raise money for good causes.
