Wisbech, who are now winless in four matches, went behind just before the hour, and were heading for defeat until a Matt Sparrow goal three minutes into added time in the second half salvaged a point.

Following the game, Wisbech boss Brett Whaley was critical of his players, saying “I’m really disappointed. We cannot afford to drop any more points. We started well and we looked really positive but after 20 minutes and not scoring we started feeling sorry for ourselves.

“I felt like we were waiting for things to happen rather than making them happen. I think we expected to win today and you can’t expect to turn up and win games.”

Whaley hailed Matt Sparrow’s performance after the forward netted the Fenmen’s only goal with a superb solo effort.

He said “Fair play to Matty Sparrow for the goal - it was a great goal - but that’s just masking what was a real disappointing performance. I feel in the last two weeks we’ve taken two steps forward and today we’ve taken another step back.

The Wisbech manager also called on his players not to underestimate tomorrow’s opponents, Huntingdon Town, who lie bottom of the United Counties League Premier Division.

He said “The expectation is that we go and win the game but the problem is if we turn up expecting things to happen, we won’t get the result.

Huntingdon are going to get a result sooner or later. It’s a big game for them and they’re going to be right up for it. We can’t make excuses and we have to win the game.”
