A massive message of thanks has gone to fund raisers who have helped net thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support in Cambridgeshire.

Pauline Craig, fund raising manager for the county, said: “I want to say a personal thank you to everyone who hosted or attended coffee mornings, volunteered their time, took part in challenge events, braved the shave, went sober for October, put a pound in a collection box, or held their own events to raise money for Macmillan.

“Because of all the support Macmillan was able to commit over £933,770 across the county, helping to support the 25,600 people living with or beyond cancer locally.

“That means there are now around 70 Macmillan professionals working in Cambridgeshire.”

One of the latest developments is a new Macmillan information and support manager at Hinchingbrooke Hospital - Kevin Tyler.

He has been helping people access the information they need at a time when they need it most, while also preparing for when the Macmillan Woodlands Centre opens later this year.

Current conditions are cramped and overcrowded, so Kevin is looking forward to being able to expand his service when this state-of-the-art new facility is up and running.

“Things will be drastically different - people will be able to just drop in for advice and information whenever they need it. There’ll be a sociable area too. Anything beyond the medical and clinical support that the doctors and nurses provide, I’ll be able to help with,” he said.

Contact Kevin on 01480 416416 or visit the Macmillan Information Point, on the first floor of the Treatment Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

Pauline said: “Macmillan’s ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.

“With your help, we can make sure no one in Cambridgeshire has to face cancer alone.”
