The first meeting of Fenland Dementia Action Alliance was held last week ahead of the group’s official launch.

Hilary Shepherd, Dementia Action Alliance coordinator for Cambridgeshire attended the meeting.

She said: ““My job is to bring people together, from across as many sectors as possible – retail, education, local authority, voluntary – who all have one thing in common: a passion for changing attitudes towards dementia.

“We encourage businesses to make dementia friends information sessions part of the standard staff induction, to offer the opportunity to become a dementia friends champion to a key staff member, and to do whatever else they are able to raise awareness of dementia in the community.

“One of our focuses at the moment is Dementia Awareness Week (15 to 21 May).

“How can Fenland DAA raise awareness of dementia during this week?

“We want to reassure not only people living with dementia, but also their carers, that it is possible to live well with dementia, that there are services available to support you, and that the local community is committed to working together to become more dementia friendly.”

The official launch of the Fenland DAA takes place on Wednesday May 18 in March Library from 10am until 2pm.

“I’m really looking forward to working further with businesses and organisations in Fenland, and to seeing the great changes we can make together for all people affected by dementia.”

The official launch of the Fenland DAA takes place on Wednesday May 18 in March Library from 10am until 2pm.
