A church in Parson Drove is holding a special service to raise awareness about dementia and support those who care for somebody living with the condition.

Emmanuel Church is holding a service on Wednesday May 18 at 2.45pm to acknowledge and support all those who care for someone in either a personal or professional capacity.

The church service is free and will last about 45 minutes with light refreshments afterwards.

The Right Rev Dr Bishop David Thomson will be joining the service and will be guest speaker.

Any donations will go to support both national research into dementia and the local dementia groups in Wisbech.

Dementia Awareness Week is from May 15 to 21 which is being used as a key time to increase understanding of the illness.

There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and around 700,000 informal carers looking after loved ones - this is expected to rise to 1.7 million by 2050.

There are 8,000 people living with the disease here in Cambridgeshire.
