The erection of a self-service laundrette in Wisbech four months ago was in breach of planning, it has been revealed.
The 24/7 laundrette, at the Horsefair Shopping Centre, was erected in February this year, but Photo-Me International Plc, who built the laundrette, failed to submit a planning application to Fenland District Council.
Since then, the company has submitted retrospective plans on the advice of the council.
The application, submitted by Planning Resolution Ltd on behalf of Photo-Me International, claims that ‘there are still a significant number of people who rely upon laundrette services to meet their weekly and/or larger scale washing needs,’ and that the three washer laundrette provides a ‘much needed community service.’
When the laundrette was unveiled in February, it divided opinion in the town, with one social media user saying: “That is one crazy idea.
“Love the concept but why would you want to pull out your dirty laundry in the middle of town?”
Offering users two different wash loads; eight kg and 18kg, as well as an 18kg dryer, the Revolution 24 outdoor washer costs between £2 and £8 to use.
