Three pupils at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris are celebrating after winning a prestigious handwriting competition beating over 6,000 students from across East Anglia.
The Queen’s Handwriting Competition is run by the East of England Agricultural Society in conjunction with the annual show at Peterborough.
Year 8 students from the Chatteris school entered by accurately copying the chosen passage using their best handwriting.
Judges scrutinised the entries, first for any errors, which would have meant automatic disqualification, and then on the neatness of the writing.
Ellie Waters scooped first prize in the Class C competition with fellow pupils Jodi Dawson and Ella Harness taking second and third places.
Ellie was presented with an engraved Cross pen, a certificate and tickets for the autumn show, Jodi and Ella both received certificates and tickets for the show.
Jackie Harding, from Cromwell Community College, praised the girls for their achievement and said: “It is amazing, they did really well. There were 6,031 entries from schools all over the area and they managed to win first, second and third places. We are all really proud of them.”
