For the first time in over 30 years a Roman Catholic priest from the Diocese of East Anglia has been inducted in the joint parish of St Jude the Apostle, Whittlesey, and Sacred Heart, Ramsey.

On February 26, Bishop Alan Hopes inducted Fr Michael Vulliamy as priest in the joint parish. Up until summer 2016, priests from the Rosminian Order (after Blessed Antonio Rosmini) had served here.

One long-time parishioner said that it was the first time they had ever witnessed a parish priest’s induction.

Another parishioner said: “It is encouraging to know that the Bishop recognises that things are happening in our parish, especially when one of our young men is discerning a vocation to the priesthood.”

Bishop Alan made a point of asking parishioners to pray for Fr Michael and all the priests who have served the parish over the years, especially Fr Antony Slack IC, who sadly died shortly after retiring in 2016.

After the Mass at Whittlesey, there was a shared lunch and an opportunity to speak with Bishop Alan.
