“It was worth all the hard work, our marshals and organising committee should be proud of the response we have had from over 200 entrants and the viewing public.

The group is a small club of old vehicle enthusiasts and welcome everyone with any interest in old vehicles - you don’t have to own one.

The club was formed in 1989 by a group of historic vehicle enthusiasts. A number of those founder members were already members of national vehicle clubs but had difficulty in attending meetings held on weekdays in major cities.

For the first four years the club held weekend rallies and then in 1993 decided to hold a Road Run. This proved very popular and has been held every August, now covering an eighty-mile route around Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire with static displays in Peterborough and Wisbech.

Vehicles owned by club members range in age from the 1920s to the 1980s and encompass most modes of road transport.

There are vans and commercials; vintage and classic cars; motorcycles and scooters.

Some members own classic caravans and camper vans, buses, emergency and military vehicles.

Some attend shows and rallies around the British Isles and have won prestigious awards. Others are still used as everyday transport.

The W&DHVC is non-profit making and any money raised throughout the year and during the Road Run is donated to charity.

Since the club started, over £10,000 has been collected and distributed to local good causes including the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

• They meet on the first Monday of the month at Elgoods Fenland Stadium Lynn Road Wisbech at 8pm and are always looking for new members.
