A rugby match, family fun and music into the night saw people from across Britain travel to the Fens to take part to help raise funds for local military charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
The charity day raised more than £800 for the charity dedicated to supporting children who have lost a parent serving in the British Armed Forces.
Tanya porter, organised the fund raiser as the 11th of 14 dedicated to supporting Scotty’s ahead of competition in the great North Run next month.
Tanya said: “The weather was great and the turn out impressive.
“We had the British Legion standard bearers as a guard of honour and charity founder Nicky and her children attended which was great.
“The Scotty’s team won 36-17 and had players from across the country travel here to take part.
“It was a fantastic day and worth all the hard work.”
The March Rugby Club was packed with fun fair rides, stalls, a bird of prey demonstration, refreshments and games.
There was a spitfire fly past and a set of stocks.
In the evening local singers and bands entertained into the night.
Tanya said she wanted to help Scotty’s Little Soldier’s as she was at school with the sister of Corporal Lee Scott - in whose name the charity was dedicated to seven years ago by his widow Nicky.
Scotty’s supports families in a range of ways including fun activities for children and emotional support with counselling.
They also send hundreds of bereaved Forces families on respite breaks to give them the opportunity to make some new happy memories.
There are six Scotty Lodges – fully equipped luxury mobile homes located on Haven Holiday Parks across the UK – as well as long weekend breaks at Center Parcs and weekend stays at theme park resorts such as Legoland available for families to enjoy.
Nikki Scott, founder, said: “The idea was to have somewhere bereaved families could go and not have to worry about anything.
“The fridge has supplies, there are spare nappies in the cupboard, there are toys and games, there’s a high chair, everything a family could need.
“So, they can just rock up and begin to enjoy their time together – we even cover the cost of their fuel to get there. That’s what the Scotty Lodges are all about.”
