More than 30 families living below the poverty line will receive a Christmas hamper made up by two Fenland churches.
The Centenary Baptist Church in March and the Wisbech Baptist Church have both filled hampers with food and festive treats to be delivered across the Fens.
Denise Townsend, a deacon at Centenary Baptist Church, said: “We know there is a serious need among some of the people in our care.
“It’s really tough living on a low income and many of the people we are working with have a list of other difficulties too, such as ill health, joblessness and grief.”
Both churches are run by the Fenland Debt Centre in partnership with national charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP), a charity helping people who feel ‘trapped by debt’.
Sue Bradshaw, Fenland CAP Debt Centre manager said: “It’s great to be able to say to people that however impossible their financial situation seems, we will be able to help them to become debt free.”
