The March Marlins are currently having a busy and successful time with numerous swimming events.

Last weekend saw three events taking place in three locations.

Firstly, Dannii Rayner competed in Luton looking to be added on the National list. She came away with two golds in both the 100m and 200m backstroke plus personal best times in the 100m and 200m breaststroke races.

The Cambridge Spring Open Meet was in play all weekend which resulted in 23 personal bests from 43 races and a selection of medals.

Furthermore, Reece Simpson and Jacob Cowin added to their Regional qualifying times in the 200m race and the 100m backstroke respectively.

The 50m butterfly events handed Una Ansome and Harry Rayner personal best times . Harry also added to his personal best success in the 50m backstroke with Georgia Ambrose doing the same in the female 50m backstroke race.

The 50m breaststroke gave Daniel Riches a pb plus a silver medal. Luke Ruggles followed up with a bronze medal and a pb.

Next up, Cowin brothers, James and Jacob came away with a personal best in the 100m freestyle with Jacob taking the bronze medal.

Daniel Riches also reached a personal best in the 100m freestyle and gained a silver medal in the 50m freestyle.

The 100m freestyle showed great determination from sisters Gemma and Molly McGowen, both resulting in a personal best each with Una Ansome doing the same. Chloe Cook and Jacob Cowin took home a silver each for the 200m IM with James and Jacob collecting a gold for the 200m backstroke.

Thea Hanley took a bronze plus personal best for the 400m freestyle. More bronze recipients were Daniel Riches in the 200m freestyle, Molly McGowan in the 200m IM, Tom Hanley in the 200m breaststroke and Chloe Cook and Georgia Ambrose in the 100m breaststroke.

Tom Hanley just missed out on a Regional time but gained a personal best in both the 400m freestyle and in the 100m breaststroke with Rebecca Jordan also achieving a best time in her100m breaststroke race.

The 200m freestyle gave way to 3 personal bests from Thea Hanley, Georgia Ambrose and Rosetta Schauenburg-Kent. The 200m breaststroke resulted in a gold medal for Daniel Riches and a pb. Harry Rayner and Jacob Cowin came away with personal best times for their 100m backstroke races.

Over in Peterborough, round three of the COPS Mini Meet was underway. Weronika Mikolajewska kicked off the session with a first place in the 100m IM and continued this success in the 50m freestyle, following up with a second place in the 50m breaststroke.

Reece Simpson came first in all 3 of his races, gaining a personal best in two of them. Other personal best achievers in the 50m freestyle were Thea Hanley, Olivia Tunley, Saule Majauskis and April Marie Doherty. Luke Cumbridge and Henry Gooch followed suit in their 50m butterfly event.

The 50m breaststroke gave Hannah Jordan and Katrina Dale the opportunity to reach a personal best time with Connor Rickard doing the same in the 50m backstroke event. Eight out of the twelve swimmers gained personal best times in the boys and girls 200m IM.

And finally, the COPS Mini Gala which took place on March 31, allowed our younger swimmers to take part in a competition, some competing for the first time.

Personal best times were achieved by Harry Rickard, Devon O’Neil, Luis Souto Hill, Erica Richmond, Luke Cumbridge, Matthew Cumbridge, Jonas Meckauskas, Abigail Watsham, Ewan Hannam, Jacob Lowe, Gracie Moule and Joshua Southwell.

Thea Hanley and Abigail Watsham gained first places in their 50m breaststroke heat s with Gracie Webb reaching second place in her 50m freestyle heat. Matthew Cumbridge placed second in his heats for both the 25m butterfly and 25m backstroke.

Luis Souto Hill also gained a second in his heat for the 50m freestyle race. The team also raced in several relay events. Also swimming were Samuel Sobolevs, Lucy McClure, Layla Bullman and Cameron Dickerson.
