“Last November Mandy lost her three year battle with cancer. A truly wonderful woman who inspired everyone she met and brought a smile to everyone she spoke to.

“A loving Mother, wife and grandmother Mandy was so much to so many people. Mandy was more than just a friend to myself and my family helping the family through whatever issues we may have.

“For two people Like Mandy and Nick only a bike ride of this magnitude can come close to how important they were to the people around them.”

Joe and Kevin set off on June 16 from John O’Groats and will make their way down the length of the UK towards Lands End in Cornwall.

The ride will be a minimum of 1,000 miles and completed at a 120 miles a day over eight days.

Joe said on his Just Giving page: “This is by far the most difficult challenge I have set myself in my life, physically, mentally and emotionally.

“Kevin and I will be carrying our own supplies on the ride with no support vehicle, adding to the difficulty of the challenge. It will be a serious challenge for us both, but one we are both looking forward to embarking on.

“This is a disease that effects millions of people all over the world every year, it tears family’s apart and takes loved ones from us. Having an opportunity to help contribute towards helping people suffering from the disease and also the families of these people is the underlying target for myself and Kevin.”
