Fenland Running Club sent nine teams to the annual Hereward Relay recently.
First run in 1998 with 20 teams, this year’s event saw 117 teams of four cover legs from Peterborough to Whittlesey (6.9 miles), Whittlesey to March (10.3), March to Welney (11.5) and Welney to Ely (10.9).
And Fenland’s Ryan Jones (41.14), Lewis Saunders (65.00), Stuart Follen (79.52) and Sean Connolly (68.58) combined to come home in an impressive sixth place.
Gary Axter-Mattingley, Adrian Searle, Rachael Nichols and Mandy Coleman had all graduated from the club’s Beginners Course, plus Rimvydas Muduras and Steve Bennington, as Carly Read smashed her first leg best by 65 seconds.
