An inspirational 16-year-old will be representing the Fens on the world stage after making it into the U23’s England amputee football team.

Nathan Fisher, who is in year 11 at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris, is chasing his dream of competing in different European nations in a competitive U23 tournament in 2019.

Nathan will also be preparing himself to progress into the England senior squad ahead of the EAFF Championships in 2020 in Krakow.

However, he is looking for sponsorship for him to represent England U23’s this year and must raise a minimum of £250 to retain his place within the squad.

Proud mother, Kim Fisher, said: “Nathan lead a normal happy childhood although he has had several operations, but he has always adjusted to every little obstacle that was put in his path and just got on with it.”

Nathan was born without a fibular bone on his right leg and had to have his foot amputated at nine-months-old.

Mrs Fisher continued: “He loves sport especially football, he played for Chatteris Tigers when he was small but as he got bigger it got too much for him running on his artificial leg.

“Nathan’s PE teacher suggested amputee football to him last November.

“We watched a match and were amazed as some players were playing football using crutches and not wearing their artificial leg.

“Over the last nine months Nathan has got stronger and better, in June Nathan was asked to play with Peterborough United Amputee’s against Everton United Amputees in the Disability FA Cup final at St Georges Park.

“This was an amazing opportunity and even better that Peterborough United Amputees won the cup.”

Nathan has now signed up to play for Peterborough United Amputees adult’s team, with the season set to kick off in January.

The England Amputee Football Association (EAFA) is a charity which supports individuals with amputations of limb deficiencies play football regardless of ability, age or gender.

The charity has low levels of support, especially at the elite level with no funding from any National Governing Body and solely relies of donations and sponsorship to enable the team to compete at the highest level available within the sport.
