A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of the kidnap and murder of a missing Cambridgeshire woman.
Vitalija Baliutaviciene, 29, has not been seen since leaving her home in Burmer Road, New England, Peterborough, at 5.10am on Friday, August 12.
Police in Lithuania arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with the investigation yesterday (Wednesday) on behalf of Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
He is currently in custody in Lithuania awaiting extradition procedures.
Despite the arrest, police investigating Vitalija’s disappearance are keeping an open mind as to whether she is still alive.
Det Insp Martin Brunning said: “A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap and murder in connection with the inquiry into the disappearance of Vitaliaja.
“This is a significant development in the investigation, however we are keeping an open mind as to whether Vitalija is still alive and well.
“I would continue to urge anyone with any information about Vitalija’s disappearance to contact police.”
The mother-of-one had been due to walk along Thistlemoor Road and down Lincoln Road to be picked up for work in Geneva Street. However, she did not arrive.
She was last seen wearing light blue three-quarter length jeans, a blue denim jacket and light plimsoll trainers. It is believed she was carrying an umbrella and a distinctive brightly coloured bag with a butterfly pattern.
Anyone with any information should call Det Insp Brunning on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
