THE living standards of full-time workers in Cambridgeshire have fallen by an average of 8.7 per cent in the last four years, according to the GMB trade union’s analysis of official earnings data.
But Cambs workers fare far better than their counterparts in Bedfordshire, where the real value of earnings has fallen by 20.7 per cent since April 2007 and average earnings had also fallen in cash terms, the union said last week.
The average fall across Eastern region was 7.3 per cent, compared with 6.2 per cent for the whole of England and 5.9 per cent for the UK.
The mean gross (unadjusted) full-time salary in Cambridgeshire rose from 34,211 to 36,476 between April 2007 and November 2011, the figures showed. In that period inflation rose 16.1 per cent, the GMB said.
