A STRETCH of the A47 between Guyhirn and the Thorney Bypass has been the scene of 10 fatalities in as many years, according to new Government figures.
Malcolm Moss, MP for NE Cambs, heard details of the accident rate following a Parliamentary question to the Government.
Chris Mole, an assistant whip, told Mr Moss that there had been 10 fatalities between 1999 and 2008, and over 250 non fatal accidents during the same period.
Mr Moss said today: "The unacceptable level of accidents on this stretch of the A47 places a huge burden on local A&E hospitals, not to mention the trauma suffered by the individuals and families involved.
"There is also the massive cost to the economy as a result of repeated hold-ups and tailbacks on the road.
"I will write back to the Department for Transport and ask them to liaise with Cambridgeshire County Council to put in place new road safety measures in order to ensure that we reduce this large human and economic cost.
