IT was an Evening of the Arts at a Fenland school when youngsters took to the stage for their Christmas variety show.

Secondary pupils at the Meadowgate School in Wisbech performed the show last night at Thomas Clarkson Community College, also in Wisbech, to a sell-out 300-people audience.

The show featured individual sketches by each class, including renditions of The Lion King, CATS and the story of the Hare and the Tortoise. There were also a number of street dance performances.

The performance raised 1,500 which will be split between Milton Children's Hospice and Cancer Research.

Lisa Gill, head of music at Meadowgate School, said: "We are grateful to Thomas Clarkson Community College for the use of the hall. Staff have been really good to us."

Our pictures were taken by photographer Brian Purdy at the final rehearsals on Wednesday.
