WORKERS at Premier Foods in Wisbech have given "absolutely fantastic support" for today's 24-hour strike over pay.
Staff began picketing factory entrances in Lynn Road and Mount Pleasant at 6am.
"We have had absolutely fantastic support from our members so far and we expect that to continue or even increase during today," said factory convenor Mark Plumb.
"We expect a significant number or our members to turn out to support us; early indications show that very few people have turned in for work."
He said a mass rally was expected to be held at lunchtime, as shifts prepare to change.
"We expect each to shift to support the strike action," he added.
Workers from Lithuania, Poland and Portugal are among those taking part in the stoppage, thought to be the first official dispute at the company for more than 30 years.
A company spokesman said: "We are disappointed that Unite has chosen to initiate industrial action without asking members to consider our latest offer of two possible options to secure a long term pay deal."
"The factory will remain open on Wednesday for anyone who chooses to come in to work. We remain committed to reaching a negotiated settlement.
