A senior manager at the College of West Anglia (CWA) rolled up his sleeves and got a reminder of what it is like to be starting out on the job ladder.
As part of the National Apprenticeship week, the college’s head of organisational development and quality, Andrew England, worked alongside CWA apprentice Hannah Flowers at Walpole Area Pre-school.
He helped her complete her everyday tasks, including storytelling, building block activities and preparing morning snacks and drinks for the children.
Mr England said: “I found the whole experience fascinating and had a very enjoyable time, playing and working with the children. To be an apprentice in this environment is fantastic and really rewarding.
“I think it’s really important to see the apprenticeship scheme through the eyes of the apprentice.
“It’s great to hear the positive views of the apprenticeship scheme and how it really benefits individuals and their employers.”
Miss Flowers, 18, of Walpole St Peter, is working towards a level 3 advanced apprenticeship. She hopes to continue working for the pre-school when she completes her training.
She said: “I love my apprenticeship, watching and helping children grow and develop is very rewarding. My apprenticeship has helped me gain confidence and improved my communication skills.”
Walpole Area Pre-school owner and manager Maggie Plume said: “Hannah has really bloomed on her apprenticeship and has developed so much as a person, as well as an employee.”
