Youngsters were treated to a bouncy castle, karaoke and soggy pillow fights at this year’s Playday at the Wisbech Adventure Playground.
The Wisbech Playday – which was free to enter - also included information stalls, local artists and sculpture workshops, together with ‘Funk Junk’ - percussion drumming by the Market Place, Creative People and Places project using recycled materials.
Families came from as far afield as Cambridge, King’s Lynn and Downham Market to enjoy the entertainment, which also included face painting by local volunteers, a barbecue run by County Councillor Paul Clapp, den building and a disco run by Wisbech deputy mayor Steve Tierney. Mayor Garry Tibbs also attended.
The day also hosted a consultation on the Waterlees area by Chris Stevens from the Oasis Centre and Councillors Virginia and Mike Bucknor.
Playday is the national day for play, traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August, and is the biggest play sector event in the UK.
As well as a celebration of children’s right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives. Playday is coordinated by Play England, in partnership with Play Wales, Play Scotland and PlayBoard Northern Ireland.
