Sessions House in Wisbech will open for exclusive tours and stories this weekend.
Annie Appleby will lead the event, which is organised by Peter Clayton of the Octavia Hill Birthplace Museum, about the former police cells beneath Wisbech Sessions House on 32 Somers Road.
“This is a chance to go in a building that is not normally open to the public,” she said.
“Get a chance to go in the cells, see/touch the amazing doors with names and pictures on engraved by the convicts dating from 1808.
“Want to feel what it was like to be locked in a dark, damp cell? No problem! Bring a camera and have your photo taken behind bars.
“People can also hear about crime and punishment in Wisbech in the early 1800’s, see the exercise yard and something unexpected in the roof space.”
The tour involves climbing stairs and confined spaces, and there will be an opportunity to visit and head about Octavia Hill’s new Golden River Garden.
The event takes place on Sunday 25 September at 10am and 11.30am.
Tickets; £5 per person, can be booked at www.theheritagefestival.org/WhatsOn.php Tours are limited to 10-12 people.
