Teenagers at a school in Wisbech have been getting green-fingered to help the town’s gardening group.
Meadowgate Sixth Form’s horticulture group have been assisting the Wisbech in Bloom planting team who are creating the Community Orchard in Wisbech Park. The students, aged 18 to 19, are studying for a qualification in horticulture from the Royal Horticultural Society.
As part of their studies, they have been digging, planting and staking apple trees for the orchard under the supervision of tutor Tim Jellis.
Emma Bird, of Meadowgate, said: “This is a great example of our students getting involved in the local community and making a positive contribution.
“The students will also be helping the Wisbech in Bloom team with the planting up of hanging baskets in the following months.”
In December 2017, the sixth form students thanked an ‘anonymous source’ for donating enough money to buy nine new bicycles and helmets.
In October 2017, students and staff at Meadowgate raised more than £300 for Macmillan by holding a coffee morning.
